If you are a parent, like myself, then you are ALWAYS looking for ways to get greens in to your kids. My daughter hardly even eats her favorite food, chicken nuggets, without me begging and pleading. Broccoli and kale are a joke! She can spot them out even in the best made smoothie.
Recently I decided to try some kiwi in a smoothie in an attempt to get some nutrition in her. She LOVED it. Every day she asks for a smoothie and slowly I have added different ingredients. This is my most basic Shamrock Smoothie (in honor of the upcoming St. Patricks Day) but I encourage you to branch out and try some new ingredients! Let me know what works (and what doesn’t!). I will try to add different variations as time goes on. In reality, you could add some red food coloring and make it Cupid’s Love Smoothie. A lot of ways to get creative!
What You’ll Need
1 frozen banana, cut up prior to freezing!
4 kiwis, cut in slices and then fourths
1/3 cup apple juice
1/2 cup milk
1 cup greek yogurt
splash of honey
green food coloring, optional to increase color!
- Add all ingredients, except for honey and food coloring to a blender.
- Pulse on low until well combined.
- Add a swirl or two of honey and food coloring.
- Pulse again on low until color is well dispersed!
- I serve mine with kiwi, you can leave it ungarnished if you prefer 🙂
Can we talk for a second about how ridiculous of a fruit kiwi is… I mean, seriously. Trying to peel and cut those things is one of the most ridiculous experiences for me EVERY TIME! I swear I cut more off than I should and it always feels so wasted! Am I alone?
Other Suggestions to add
So many flavor options! Let me know which you decide to try!
