Handmade Halloween : A Family Tradition

Handmade Halloween : A Family Tradition

Over the years my mom tirelessly made Halloween costumes for my brother and I, especially when we were younger. As we got older we kind of chose our own costumes but the ones from our younger years can never really be topped. Since having kids of my own, my mom has started making their costumes too! It’s a good thing because I don’t know if I could continue on that legacy of those handmade costumes. I don’t have step by step instructions for any of these because the truth is — my mom saw an idea, ran with it, and made it her own! I am sharing these for inspiration for others who take on the daunting task of making instead of buying! P.S. – Our costumes (and now our kids costumes) were always a hit no matter where we went!

First, let’s take a tour of the costumes for my own kiddos. Rhory’s first Halloween she dressed as an adorable little kitty cat and I was the crazy cat lady!

The next year we went with a more traditional, adorable costume – a scarecrow! UGH I still get all the feels looking at this sweet picture!

Last year, little Rhett had joined our family so of course the kids needed coordinating costumes. Raggedy Ann and Andy won out and holy moly they were so adorable!

This year Rhory is old enough to have some opinions about things so she requested that she be Princess Poppy from Trolls and Rhett would be Branch. The costumes turned out better than I could imagine and they were the hits of the street in our local town during a trick or treat event.

As an added treat I am going to share some of the marvelous costumes my mom has made for my brother and I from WAY back when – enjoy!
