DIY Cedar Plank Accent Wall
If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am Pinterest crazy. It is a slight obsession but with all of the ideas who can blame me, right? The inspiration is NEVER ENDING although my husband wishes it would all just end! HA. I am constantly texting/emailing him a ton of ideas for our new-to-us home. We haven’t been here a year yet and we have already made so many changes!
The biggest trend right now are planked accent walls. Our kitchen had a HUGE plain wall that needed some love. I considered a gallery wall but since we already have a few we approached a different avenue! We spent one *full* day going between Lowe’s and Home Depot trying to figure out what in the world to use. Eventually we stumbled upon the shingles department of Lowe’s and found some beautiful cedar shingles. We bought five bundles based on our rough estimate and headed home to get to work!
Clearly I forgot to grab a true before picture, but you get the point!
We had originally wanted to finish in one night – LOL, I can only laugh at our ambitious goals. Typically the shingles are overlapping but we decided to lay them sideways to add an element of texture.
Once we started Josh quickly realized that his OCD was kicking in. All of the shingles are not the same size. The shingles up against the left wall were all straight but they became staggered as we added more.
Josh realized we needed to make the whole wall staggered and unusual. The end product is FANTASTIC! It only took about 3 days of 2-3 hour work to complete it!
If you are looking for an easy DIY project to really increase the beauty inside your home – THIS IS IT! Have you done something like this in your home? I would love to hear about it! Leave me a comment!
